Spring Flower Highlight -- Hellebores

Hellebores are an evergreen perennial plant blooming in the late winter and early spring. They are low maintenance, deer resistant and very resilient sometimes blooming through snow and winter temperatures. The hellebores flower, or what appears to be the flower, are actually sepals that protect the actual bud. The real petals are the tiny "nectaries" that are hidden inside. In Greek mythology they were believed to ward off evil and to treat madness (however, they are toxic and should never be ingested!)
